For over 25 years, families across Twickenham have made our friendly St Margarets practice their dental home. Whether it's your first ever check-up or you're moving from another practice, we'd love to welcome you - and your first private examination is just £30 (usually £60).

We know choosing a new dentist can feel like a big decision - particularly if it's been a while since your last visit, or if you're registering your whole family. At St Margarets Smiles, we like to think we make the whole thing as easy and unhurried as possible, with a warm welcome from our reception team and plenty of time with your dentist to ask questions.
We're a mixed NHS and private practice, which means whether you're after good, honest NHS dentistry or you'd like to explore cosmetic treatments like whitening or Invisalign, you'll find what you need under one roof. And as a long-established family practice, we genuinely enjoy looking after multiple generations of the same families - from your littlest ones in for their first children's check-up, right through to grandparents popping in for hygiene visits.
Selecting the right dental practice is an important decision, and at Tavistock Dental, we aim to make that choice easy and reassuring for you. Here’s what makes us stand out

You can book online via our website or give us a quick call - whichever's easier. Our reception team will help you find an appointment time that works around school runs, work or weekend commitments.
We're located at 165 St Margarets Road, just a two-minute walk from St Margarets train station with pay-and-display parking right outside. When you arrive, our reception team will check you in and give you a few short forms to complete (or you can fill these in online beforehand to save time).
Your dentist will spend proper time with you, talking through your dental history, any concerns you have, and what you're hoping for from your dental care going forward. There's no rush, no judgment, and absolutely no pressure to take up any treatment.
Your dentist will carry out a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, bite and the soft tissues of your mouth. We'll check for any signs of decay, gum issues, or anything that might need a closer look. X-rays may be taken if needed (£10 each).
After your examination, we'll talk through everything we've found in plain English - never jargon. If any treatment is needed, you'll receive a clear written treatment plan with costs listed up front, so there are no surprises.
If you need any treatment or you'd like to book a hygiene appointment to give your teeth a proper clean, we'll get this booked in before you leave. We'll also recommend when you should come back for your next routine check-up.
We're a family-friendly practice and warmly welcome new patients of all ages and backgrounds.

You'll also meet our hygienist Rachael Kayibanda, who is passionate about prevention and oral health education, and who plays an important role in keeping your smile healthy between visits.

How do I book my first appointment?
We're a mixed NHS and private practice. Private patients can book in straight away, and we operate an NHS waiting list for those interested in joining. To register your interest in joining the NHS waiting list, please call us on 020 8744 9922.
What's included in the £30 new patient exam?

Are you taking on new NHS patients?
Yes, we're currently accepting new NHS patients at St Margarets Smiles. We're a mixed NHS and private practice, which means you can choose what's right for you and your family.
Do I need to register the whole family at the same time?
Not at all - you're welcome to register individually or as a family. We genuinely love looking after multiple generations of the same family, and we'll happily book family appointments together if that works better for you.
Do you offer weekend appointments?
Yes - as well as our usual Monday to Friday hours, we offer appointments on selected weekends too. Weekend slots are by appointment only and limited (usually around one Saturday a month, plus some Sundays), so they're worth booking ahead - handy for working adults and busy families across St Margarets and East Twickenham who can't always make it in during the week.
I haven't been to the dentist in years - will I be judged?
Absolutely not. Lots of our new patients haven't been to a dentist for years, sometimes decades, and we treat every new patient with the same warm, non-judgmental welcome. We're here to help, not to lecture.
Do you accept new patients from outside St Margarets?
Yes, we welcome new patients from across the TW1 postcode and the wider Richmond upon Thames borough - including East Twickenham, Isleworth, Whitton and Strawberry Hill. We're a short walk from St Margarets train station with pay-and-display parking right outside the practice.
